What threats present new challenges to cybersecurity in companies?

Different ones again and again, because the threats are constantly changing. The use of AI for better phishing e-mails and deep fakes is highly topical. Another issue is the growing complexity of IT infrastructures (cloud, IoT, decentralization), which can lead to vulnerabilities, and not least the lack of resources.

How does a company protect itself effectively against cyberattacks in the face of advancing digitalization?

The most important thing is a top-down security culture. The willingness and the funds for the security program must be available. While cybercrime is constantly evolving, traditional approaches are still the right answer. A good start is to get to grips with «basics» such as asset and vulnerability management, IAM (especially MFA), or backup and restore processes across all infrastructures before investing money in expensive promises.

It is also essential to rethink the IT strategy periodically. How must IT change in order to serve the business in a sustainable and long-term manner? In modernization projects, security must be incorporated into the processes right from the start. This approach leads to an up-to-date and higher level of security, user-friendliness and efficiency.

AI is already omnipresent today. Where can it support cybersecurity?

AI – and generative AI in particular – is increasingly becoming a key tool for cybersecurity. Unlike humans, it can analyze tremendous volumes of log files and derive patterns, ideally detecting anomalies in real time. AI models are also able to automatically generate scripts or isolate systems in real time. Of course, you can't entrust everything to technology without worrying. However, as in the business world, AI is also simplifying tedious and often repetitive tasks in the security world. For example, it helps set up an awareness campaign or write a management report.

What are Adnovum’s focus topics for 2025?

Cybersecurity and all its facets will continue to play a key role in 2025. No surprise: It is becoming increasingly important for SMEs. If they fall victim to cybercrime, it can threaten their very existence. Therefore, the market will continue to adapt to this target group’s needs.

Decentralized identities are another core topic. They will impact industry and society: If people have better control over their own data, trust will increase. At the same time, this prevents major data leaks, which reduces the potential for fraud. Plus, this change would lead to more efficient auditing processes in the financial world, healthcare and education.
